Eastern Spinebill

This extraordinary little honey eater ( about 15cm ) comes feeding from the fuchsia outside my Kitchen window. He has been here three days in a row now and it terribly difficult to photograph. It calls in the most beautiful clear ringing tone that makes it sound much larger than it is.
It often feeds in flight hovering like a humming bird, an amazing thing to see!

This is one of three Birds I had never knowingly encountered before living here. The other two were a Superb Parrot and a Restless Flycatcher.

  1. Hello Tammy, I popped over from Cathy's blog when I saw the title of your post! Eastern Spinebills are my favourite bird. Your photo is quite lovely. They're very hard to photograph aren't they ... so busy and on the move all the time. Well done :D)
